I was one of those strangely precocious children that liked to cook when they were young. This started off with mysterious concoctions of sugary products, mixed with food coloring, chocolate syrup and marshmallow fluff. I promise, I have since evolved from creating coma-inducing nightmares. A few years passed and I discovered the television show Iron Chef (now reincarnated as Iron Chef: America) and Martha Stewart’s Living show, both of which are very recipe heavy. I know this sounds really corny, but I learned how to cook with Martha, but how to blend flavors with Iron Chef. When I refused to take any more math classes or learn to write essays in middle school, my mom’s friend joked that while I may be a drop out flipping hamburgers, “they’d be gourmet hamburgers.” I’m not really sure how much comfort that was to her at the time, but not much has changed – I still hate math, resent essay writing (even though it’s sort of my ‘thing’) and love to cook.
Below are some of my favorite recipes – all of them are gluten free and positively delicious.
